WOMEN’S AID PUTS DOMESTIC ABUSE ON THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM WITH FILM, STORYBOOK AND LESSON PLANS

ONLINE FILM / CINEMA / EDUCATIONAL TOOL

Despite awareness of domestic abuse never being higher, rates weren’t falling. A different strategy was needed to effect real behaviour change, one with education at the heart of it.

‘The Monster Who Came to Tea’ was launched to coincide with World Book Day and International Women’s Day.

But this wasn’t just another awareness piece to lobby for increased government funding and policy change. Our story was the centrepiece of an educational campaign designed to teach children how to recognise the signs of domestic abuse and what’s unacceptable behaviour, from the earliest possible age.

Developed with teachers, our film and storybook are accompanied by lesson plans (tailored to age groups from primary school through to 6th form) that are being made available to schools nationwide.
